Luton boss Edwards: We were hit by Liverpool’s full throttle football

Luton boss Rob Edwards admits they were hit by the full force of Liverpool in the second-half of their 4-1 defeat.

The Hatters had the lead through Chiedozie Ogbene, before the hosts hit back via goals from Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott.

Edwards said: “I thought first half was good, in the second half we saw Liverpool at their best – full throttle football.

“Their counter-press was brilliant and we played into their hands too often at some moments. The fans were incredible and it was difficult for the players to think when they got the two quick goals – it was hard to wrestle any control.

“Second half we kept going and tried to do the right things and we kept stepping forward. If we stayed back today it could have been more.

“A lot to be proud of, we can take positives from tonight and there was lots things good about us.

“We conceded from a set-piece which is disappointing, they [Liverpool] are switched on and bright.

“Ultimately, we came up short and Liverpool were better. There are big games coming up and there was a lot of good stuff tonight. We have Manchester City in the FA Cup next and then Aston Villa who are having an incredible season.

“Every game is difficult in this league.”
