Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku is willing to take a pay cut just to return to Serie A giants Inter Milan.
Chelsea have been severely affected by the government sanctions placed on their owner Roman Abramovich in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and there is a possibility that they will sell players in the summer.
Lukaku rejoined the London side on a record-breaking deal of £98million last summer but according to reports on, Gazzetta Dello Sport the player wants to return to Italy as he isn’t happy with his situation at the Bridge.
Lukaku is believed to earn £325,000-a-week as his basic Chelsea wage but as much as £450,000-a-week once image rights and bonuses are factored in, a huge sum that isn’t likely to be sustainable going forward if the club isn’t sold.
The Belgian is willing to lower his wage expectations to secure what would be a loan move back to Inter, with his desire to return to the San Siro ‘strengthened’ by recent events. The reports also say that any Lukaku move is dependent on Abramovich offloading the club and also director Marina Granovskaia also leaving.
The freezing of Abramovich’s assets are among sanctions currently in place until May 31 but could be extended and with some of the club sponsors having left the club, the Blues might suffer financial turmoil in the coming months.
