OGC Nice manager Lucien Favre said that the club need to make transfers ahead of the upcoming season. The club have only made two transfers thus far, one of which was the permanent signing of Marcin Bulka (22), who spent last season on loan at the club from PSG.
In an interview, transcribed by L’Équipe, following the club’s 1-1 pre-season draw against Cercle Brugge, Favre said, “I remember when I was here in Nice in 2016, some players arrived very late. It is typical of the transfer window. We’re going to try to do our best right up until the end with transfers.”
Following last season’s loan spell, Bulka signed for €2m, whilst the club also completed the free signing of Badredine Bouanani (17) this week. The Swiss manager believes that further incoming are necessary. “We need transfers. Everyone (within the club management) agrees. I was told that even before arriving here. But transfers don’t just happen like that. It is very difficult, there is competition,” said Favre.
As well as competition, Nice are also handicapped by a shake-up within the structure of the club. Sporting director Julien Fournier, who is responsible for transfers, left the club suddenly last week. President Jean-Pierre Rivère is reportedly frustrated at now having to deal with multiple deals, which were first initiated by the departed Fournier.
Former Cardiff and Crystal Palace sporting director Iain Moody has arrived at the club on a temporary basis in order to help with the current transfer window.
