Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has denied claims he’s working on Jude Bellingham about a move to Anfield.
Virgil van Dijk was hailed for his role in bringing Cody Gakpo to Anfield, having spoken on the phone with his fellow countryman, as revealed by the Reds’ new recruit himself.
Asked to clarify if he had taken up a similar role, reminiscent of a player agent, to convince Borussia Dortmund midfielder Bellingham to join Liverpool, Henderson told Viaplay: “No, I don’t think so.
“We were concentrated on playing in a World Cup. Whether people do talking because I get on with Jude but, with England, everyone gets on well. I’m sure for Virg it is nice to have another familiar face come in. It’s very positive and hopefully he [Gakpo] can finish the season strongly for us. Hopefully he can come in and give us a boost. He’s someone fresh and has done fantastically well for PSV and in the World Cup as well for Holland. He looks like an exciting player and I’m sure he will settle in quickly.”
Commenting on Liverpool’s final performance of 2022, which saw those inside Anfield witness a 2-1 victory over Leicester City, the 32-year-old added: “I think we are disappointed with the goal but pleased with the reaction. We kept going and deserved the three points in the end. I don’t think we can think too far ahead, there’s no point thinking about the end of the season.”
