Kylian Mbappé has given what looks like a tell-all interview to France 2‘s weekly television newsmagazine show Envoyé Spécial, which will air on Thursday, January 18th. The French public national television channel has released a 90-second clip of the feature, which looks like it has partly taken place in Mbappé’s home, given the number of medals and trophies on display in the background.
Talking to French investigative journalist Elise Lucet, Mbappé has opened up on what it means to be… himself, a global superstar athlete, in daily life. The 25-year-old notably revealed it has been years since the last time he bought a baguette at his nearby bakery all by himself. “I don’t even know! These are things that were so simple, and I saw them as chores when I was a kid. Now, I’d pay big money now to just be able to do those things.“
‘Everything is organized now’
When asked what he would do if he was given the opportunity to go incognito for 48 hours, Kylian Mbappé sounded lost for words. “I’d spend them outside, that’s for sure! I’ll do things without having second thoughts about it“, added PSG’s record goalscorer. “This is what it’s all about. I’ve lost my spontaneity as a human being. I can’t just go out and do things if I want to. Everything is organized now.“
When asked again what he would do if nobody were to recognize him for 48 hours, Mbappé sounds like your typical 25-year-old Parisian. “I’d go eating in a restaurant, go out, meet friends, party, have a nice brunch on a sunny terrace and admire everything. The simple things in life. This is what I miss more.“
2024 is set to be a whirlwind year for Kylian Mbappé. The 25-year-old is nearing the end of his contract with PSG, attracting interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool. Mbappé is also expected to take center stage with France at the Euro 2024, and maybe too with the Olympic football team for the Paris Summer Games.
