Excitement building around La Liga title race
So much has happened over the offseason in Spain. We’ve had Kylian Mbappe’s will he/won’t he decision to reject Real Madrid and stay with Paris Saint Germain. A choice that has angered both Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and La Liga counterpart Javier Tebas. We’ve seen Barcelona find a way to fix their finances and welcome Franck Kessie from AC Milan and Andreas Christensen from Chelsea, along with former Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski. Gattuso has been appointed coach of Valencia, where president Anil Murthy has stepped down. Athletic Bilbao begin the season with a new coach in Marcelino and a new president in Jon Uriarte.
At Atletico Madrid, where there was great disappointment with the way their LaLiga 2021/22 season faded, coach Diego Simeone is hoping Antoine Griezmann can carry on his form from the last campaign. A decision over the future of Alvaro Morata could also have a big say on where the team under Cholo Simeone ends up.
Of course, the biggest fixture of any La Liga season is the much anticipated El Clasico. Indeed, Barcelona vs Real Madrid – or Real Madrid vs Barcelona – is regarded by many as the biggest game of the season anywhere in the world.
Well, the first El Clasico will be hosted by Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on October 16. Or to be more precise, matchday nine. The LaLiga live stream won’t be known until we get closer to the date for television and La Liga live match purposes.
The return fixture of Barcelona vs Real Madrid for LaLiga 2022/23 will be held at the Nou Camp on March 19 2023. This will be matchday 26 of the La Liga season.

How La Liga winner is decided
The La Liga consists of 20 teams, with each team playing eachother twice home and away over the course of a season.
Every team plays a total of 38 games. Three points are awarded for the win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat. The team which finishes the season with the most amount of points wins the La Liga.
Goal difference is recorded by subtracting the number of goals conceded by a team from the number of goals scored. In La Liga, should two teams finish with the same amount of points, their head-to-head record will be used to decide which side finishes ahead. If the head-to-head record results in a draw, then the head-to-head goal difference will decide the final position of both teams. If that also is equal, then overall goal difference is used. Beyond that, the tie breaker will be decided by Fair Play points.
Does La Liga have playoffs?
For season 2022/23 the La Liga does not hold relegation playoffs. The bottom three teams at the end of the season will be relegated.
Is EPL better than La Liga?
The debate over whether the Spanish La Liga is superior to the English Premier League has raged for years. EPL fans insist their competition is the better one due to the depth of their league and competitiveness of their smaller teams. LaLiga fans, meanwhile, argue their clubs’ success in European competition is proof enough that Spanish football is the superior version. And of course, reinforcing this fact is Real Madrid’s victory in the 2021/22 Champions League final against Liverpool in Paris.
