How Man United stars reacted to Ten Hag appointment

Manchester United confirmed on Thursday afternoon they had reached an agreement with current Ajax manager Erik ten Hag to take over as their new manager this summer.

The Dutchman has long been the favorite to take over the Old Trafford host seat, beating Mauricio Pochettino, who was also among those considered.

His arrival will spell a new era for the club as they aim to regain lost glory days.

A number of players and former stars have aired their views following the appointment of the 52-year-old.

David de Gea outlined his excitement at the announcement of Ten Hag.

“Very excited the club has made the decision so now we all know,” the Spanish goalkeeper said in an interview with the club.

“We know what he has done for Ajax, he has nearly been in a Champions League final, won titles and he develops players, so I’m very excited.

“I think he plays very good football. Now we have to be focused on the last games but we are excited for this. Now let’s focus on Arsenal and fight for the top four.”

Midfielder Fred was also buzzing following the news;

“It’s great news,” says Fred in an interview with Premier League Productions. “He’s a world-class coach who will help us a lot here. I’ve watched Ajax and they are a great team who play good football. We know he helps us a lot and hopefully next year we can win trophies.”

Of course, you always have to prove yourself day to day and game by game. A new manager will look at the team and you have to show the quality of your work to continue playing and working hard under the new coach.

Donny van de Beek, currently on loan at Everton, was among the first people to ‘like’ the official announcement by United.

The midfielder enjoyed great success under Ten Hag’s stewardship at Ajax as he was an integral part of the team that won his first Eredivisie title and reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.

Former Man United and current Ajax defender Daley Blind, also reacted to the announcement.

Club legend Rio Ferdinand also joined in the welcoming bandwagon.

Ten Hag, in the meantime, will be hoping to end his Eredivisie journey on a high by winning the top-flight title.
