Hellas Verona coach Marco Zaffaroni was happy after their 1-0 win against Salernitana on Monday.
The result was earned by Cyril Ngonge.
Zaffaroni said: “It’s nice to see everyone’s smile, they deserved it. They are very difficult matches for us, especially from a point of mentally, they take away a lot of energy. We are in a position that was and is complicated, but slowly with strength and will we are trying to get out of it.
“We took another little step forward tonight, now we have to continue like this. It was a very difficult match against a good team, especially from a nervous point of view.
“There are still many games, we said this, that the path was still long and that there are all the possibilities to play our chances. We have to overcome one step at a time. The first goal was to stay in the championship and we achieved it. We are aware that the road is still long, there are many games to go, we will have to maintain this emotional tension and continue like this.
“We were good because there were some important duels against quality players, especially in the offensive men, and a good organisation of play. The key was to win certain duels and restart. We created the conditions to end the match, with 2 3 clear scoring actions, maybe even more. We suffered a bit in the final, as is normal, but overall the boys played a great game.”
