Ilkay Gundogan is delighted with his move to Barcelona.
The departing Manchester City captain’s transfer was announced this morning.
Gundogan has signed a deal to 2025 and he told the Players’ Tribune: “If I had to change clubs, Barcelona was the only one that made sense. It was Barcelona or nothing.
“I have dreamed of Barcelona ever since I was a boy. I am convinced that I have a few good years left at the highest level and I will use them to get Barcelona back where the club belongs.”
In Barcelona, Gündogan can look forward to playing again with Robert Lewandowski, with whom he was previously a teammate at Borussia Dortmund.
“It will be a reunion with my old friend Lewandowski and I am excited to play under another manager that I admired for a long time.
“When I spoke to Xavi about the project, it all felt natural. I see a lot of similarities between us as people and in our approach to the game.”
