Pere Guardiola has offered his first response to Girona’s promotion playoff triumph.
Girona have returned to the LaLiga after defeating Tenerife yesterday.
Guardiola, the brother of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, is an agent and also the president of Girona’s board. The Catalans have a partnership with City.
Pere said, “We will have a budget of €50m but we will be the poorest in Primera. We will be able to face more important and higher level things. We’ll need reinforcements. We had plan A and B, when we go up we will apply A: We will try to make a competitive squad to stay in the Primera Division.
“We cannot pay Bernardo Silva today or tomorrow. At this level of player it is impossible. LaLiga is very restrictive with fairplay, it’s a good thing on the one hand but the rules are very rigid. You need to adapt to that regulation, no matter how much money you have.”
Pere, however, was more receptive when asked about Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti.
“We have to talk about that with Quique (Carcel, sports director) and (coach) Míchel, but we are not ruling anything out”.
