Italian coaching great Gianni de Biasi is delighted seeing Roberto de Zerbi in the Premier League.
The former Sassuolo coach took charge of the Seagulls earlier this season after the departure of Graham Potter for Chelsea. The Italian becoming available after leaving a successful post with Shakhtar Donetsk following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
While he and his staff still adjust to the demands of the Premier League, De Zerbi’s newly inherited team have produced some shock results much in the traditions of his time in charge of Serie A minnows Sassuolo.
For Azerbaijan coach De Biasi, De Zerbi taking the job at Falmer stadium was no surprise. As the former Torino and Udinese coach says, De Zerbi has always shown a liking to challenge himself during his career
“My opinion is that a coach who knows how to work in a reality like Italy and achieves good results and then later tests himself in a foreign reality in maybe a championship that is not so strong, but at a strong team like Shaktar, well for me, he’s a good coach,” declared De Biasi, now 66, to Tribalfootball.com.
“I like him because he isn’t afraid to take risks, he wanted to challenge himself in a reality like Shakhtar and not, for example, Borussia Dortmund.”
For De Biasi, there’s no reason why Brighton cannot enjoy success under De Zerbi, perhaps even greater than they did with Potter – so long as their Italian manager is given time.
He added, “He is very good, De Zerbi is an intelligent guy who works very hard.
“If he is given enough time, he can achieve great results.”
