Speaking to the official PSG magazine, Paris midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum set straight his comments in a previous interview that suggested he wasn’t happy at PSG:
“The fact is, when I did this interview, I was just a little disappointed with the way things were going in sporting terms at the start of the season, on a personal level. During this period many thought that I wasn’t happy at the club when I actually was. I was simply not happy with the playing time that I was being given at that time. A journalist asked me: ‘Are you satisfied with your playing time?’ No, I wasn’t. I think any player who spends more time sitting on a bench than on the pitch won’t be fulfilled by that situation. The media interpreted my words by saying that I wasn’t happy at PSG, which was absolutely not the case.”
Wijnaldum, now 31, also explained that he has started to learn French while defending PSG’s performances this season:
“It takes time to form a good team, you have to get to know each other. Given the resources at the club, everyone expects us to win everything but that’s not how it works. I can speak from experience because I joined a team under construction when I signed for Liverpool.”
