Former AC Milan holding midfielder Gennaro Gattuso is set to replace Laurent Blanc as Olympique Lyonnais head coach, according to a report this Monday from Gianluca di Marzio.
Lyon has officially parted ways with the 1998 World Cup winner by common consent this Monday. Blanc’s job was under threat following a very poor run of results this summer. After a winless pre-season, Les Gones have drawn one and lost three of their first four Ligue 1 games. Lyon’s home 4-1 humbling by Paris Saint-Germain proved to be the last straw for the decorated centre-back.
To replace Blanc, Lyon boss and Eagle Football Holdings chief John Textor has reportedly chosen Gattuso. The 2006 World Cup winner with Italy is currently a free agent following his departure from Valencia CF last January by mutual consent. Gattuso previously coached AC Milan and Napoli. Di Marzio understands that the two-time Champions League winner with the Rossoneri (2003, 2007) is close to taking over Les Gones. The Italian reporter adds that only a few details are missing before Gattuso puts pen to paper with Lyon. The talismanic AC Milan holding midfielder may even be in charge of OL when the latter host promoted Ligue 1 side Le Havre on Sunday.
