Franck Haise on Presnel Kimpembe’s post-match song: “I thought it lacked originality.”

A sidelined Presnel Kimpembe used PSG’s 3-1 home victory on Saturday night to throw salt in the wounds of Lens, who the league leaders are now nine points clear of. After the win, the French international played to the crowd by singing a very familiar song to celebrate defeating the Ligue 1 title challengers.

He sang, “On les a chicotés” a song that would typically fill the Lens locker room, where it is sung after every win. The defender, who injured his Achilles tendon echoed, the Sang et Or team’s victory chant in front of the Parc de Princes’ remaining supporters. Afterwards, Lens coach Franck Haise spoke about the defender’s theatrics stating, “I thought it lacked originality [smiles] because it’s our song.”

After a red card to Salis Abdul Samed after a rash tackle to start the match, the visitors shipped three goals before pulling one back in the second half. The French coach seemed to take the song as gamesmanship, “I understand, it’s fair game.”

While the Lens coach may have approved of the showboating, some may have found it excessive, particularly given that the away team appeared to be well-prepared for the match before going down to ten men. Nonetheless, the victory has placed the capital city’s team in a good position to win the league.
