Bayer Leverkusen’s young star, Florian Wirtz, has secured the Bundesliga Player of the Month award for December, outperforming notable names such as Harry Kane and Xavi Simons.
The 20-year-old emerged as the standout performer for December as he was in the starting lineup for all four of the German club’s Bundesliga fixtures. The team’s position at the top of the table this winter owes much to Wirtz’s consistent and influential performances.
The German international made a significant impact by notching up four goal involvements in December, consisting of two goals and two assists.
In Bayer’s Matchday 15 triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt, Wirtz played a pivotal role, setting up Victor Boniface’s opening goal and adding one himself to secure a 3-0 victory.
With seven assists in the this season, Wirtz stands tied for second place behind Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sané in the Bundesliga’s assist charts.
He also chipped in with a goal to earn his side a point away at overperforming Stuttgart.
Only Wirtz’s teammate Boniface had more goal involvements (five) in December, while Heidenheim’s Jan-Niklas Beste was the only player to have collected more assists (three) than Leverkusen’s No.10 during the month.
