Former Inter Milan chief Marco Branca says management acted well in selling Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea in August.
Branca, however, felt they could’ve spent the Belgian’s transfer fee better.
He said, “Inter have not lost much. This year they played very well, they were for a long time superior to every opponent. Then they dropped a bit. But they have shown that they are not weaker than last season.
“Selling to buy? It can work, provided that the deals, both incoming and outgoing, are planned ahead of time.
“If the alternatives identified to compensate for the disposals are economically attainable and technically suitable, we can continue to win even if we change. Of course, you also need a bit of luck. Not all players fit in with the same ease in a new environment.
“Today in Serie A, all players are transferable in the face of very important offers. It applies to Inter as to other clubs. If you happen to be able to bring home 115 million for Lukaku, you have to sell him and quickly.
“The important thing is to be able to reinvest a large part of what you get. It didn’t happen at Inter last year, but the situation could improve over time.”
