Everton has outbid Dutch giants Ajax for the services of Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn.
The Dutchman is said to be one of the players put on sale by Spurs with the player keen on more game time ahead of the 2022 summer World Cup in Qatar.
While the player is said to be keen on returning to Ajax, Everton wants him as a replacement for Richarlison who is said to be on his way out of Goodison Park. According to Mike Verweiij in De Telegraaf they’ve suggested a higher transfer fee than Ajax.
While Ajax has been the only team interested in the player, the arrival of Everton is a prospect Spurs want to pursue as they feel they can get more money on the player if he were to remain in the Premier League.

According to Verweij, Everton has not only submitted an offer that’s closer to Tottenham’s valuation, and has beaten Ajax on personal wages. Verweij disputes the claims in the English media yesterday that said that Spurs had offered Stevie to Everton as a makeweight for Richarlison and that their interest in Bergwijn has been known for weeks now.
Verweij also notes that Bergwijn is being tracked by both Manchester United and Newcastle. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to either of those clubs being options.
