Everton boss Sean Dyche drew positives from their Carabao Cup shootout defeat to Fulham.
The Cottagers went ahead via a Michael Keane own goal before Beto scored Everton’s equaliser nine minutes before time to send the quarterfinal into a shootout.
Tosin Adarabioyo struck the winning penalty on the night after Everton’s Idrissa Gueye hit the post.
Dyche said: “I think there were a lot of good things from the performance, James Garner was excellent and so was Jimmy [James Tarkowski].
“We are working hard to create chances and that relentless attitude is important to us and it was on show – a lot of good work done from the players today.
“Apart from the first 10 to 15 minutes we were very strong, we mixed up play and we affected the opposition asking so many questions at varying times.
“We got into very good areas, but did not find the last pass, but I am not going to question it too much as we have been scoring lately.
“I said to the players ‘of course we wanted to go through’, I have made that clear, we have put out strong sides at every opportunity.
“The mentality towards performances, I thought it was there again today, their will and demand to win – sometimes it just doesn’t pay you back.”
