Eddie Howe on ‘defining moment’ of Newcastle vs PSG Champions League clash

Speaking ahead of a vital Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe spoke about the motivation of his side heading into a match which could realistically end their Champions League adventure. The following was transcribed by Get French Football News editor George Boxall at the pre-match press conference.

“The fear of failure is a motivating factor in my career, everything is geared to avoid the feeling of losing and the getting that elation of winning,” began Howe.

Howe: ‘motivation couldn’t be any bigger for us’

“I don’t think the motivation could be any bigger for us at the moment, the feeling at Chelsea (4-1 to Newcastle) was the same. There’s a real desire to make memories and that is driving us forward everyday.”

Newcastle need a result against Les Parisiens if they are to keep their chances of staying in the Champions League past the group stage. Howe was cognisant of this, adding “we want to be in the Champions League as long as we can, which makes tomorrow one of the defining and biggest moments of the season so far.”
