Duván Zapata: “I still see my future at Atalanta”

Duván Zapata remains resolute to continue playing football in Italy despite recent concerns over his long-term future at Atalanta.

Since the start of the 2022/23 season, the Colombia international has struggled to find consistency in playing time due to the hamstring injury that kept him out of action for around six matches in Serie A. Having returned from the injury, the marksman has made just two appearances, with both coming as a second-half substitute for the 31-year-old.

In an interview with DAZN, Zapata talked about loads of things and admitted that he would like to become a sporting director in future. But as far as his imminent future is concerned, the player has confirmed that he will stay at Atalanta. As quoted by Calcio Mercato, the former Napoli man said:

“I was struggling to understand what I liked before. Now that I’m a bit more mature, I dream of becoming a sporting director. It’s something I like or scouting. I still see my future as a footballer here in Italy and here in Atalanta. I think I can continue to express myself.”

Zapata has a contract with La Dea until June 2024, meaning that he has one and a half years left in his current terms. Though, the start to the new season has been full of misery, with the forward still searching for his first goal despite making six appearances in Serie A  this season thus far.
