Dimitri Payet (36), who in the summer bid an emotional farewell to Olympique de Marseille, has revealed that he will return to the club when his playing career concludes.
Over the course of his career, Payet has spent eight seasons with Marseille. During that time, he featured for the club on 326 occasions, during which time he scored 78 goals and registered 95 assists. However, his time at OM came to an end in the summer.
His departure was confirmed during a tearful press conference during which he expressed his love for the club, whilst also promising his return. The former West Ham United forward revealed that Marseille offered him the chance to integrate the coaching staff, but he was not yet ready to hang up his boots.
He therefore moved to Brazil, but as he told La Provence, he will return to the Vélodrome. “My reintegration at the club is scheduled. That should be when I retire from playing, but not necessarily in 2025. It will happen at the end of my career, so as late as possible,” said the former France international.
Whilst Payet’s contract at Vasco de Gama expires in 2025, he is clearly hoping to extend his playing career even further before his eventual return to his beloved OM.
