Di Canio writes off Juventus as title contender: They’ve had structural problems for two years

Lazio hero Paolo di Canio rates AC Milan as title favourites.

Di Canio, however, feels everything can change depending on the remaining weeks of the summer market.

He told Tuttosport: “I think the market can still be decisive, but to date my favourite is Milan as champions of Italy, with Inter contender number one, unless (Milan) Skiriniar remains.

“Much behind all the others. Juventus are not entitled to the title at the moment. Juve have had structural problems for two years. (Paul) Pogba was an opportunity to be released, but he’s coming from two and a half bad years and I’m certainly not saying that. After the World Cup he won as a leader, he got lost.

“Of course, now he has to manage this injury, not surprising by studying his last seasons, and we will see if the incisive Pogba will return for 90 minutes or just for some parts of the game. For the rest I observe: (Ange) Di Maria is a wonderful player, but he is 34 years old and a World Cup is at the door; (Fede) Chiesa has to recover, (Dusan) Vlahovic struggles, (Mathijs) De Ligt and (Giorgio) Chiellini have gone.

“I don’t think Bremer alone, a great stopper, to be seen in a four-man line, is enough, just as a left-back is missing on the left.

“They need a midfielder, we’ll see if (Leandro) Paredes is a solution. (Filip) Kostic? Bravo, but he is not a back four. For me, the current Juve is not the first.”
