In a video posted on the French national team’s social media channels, defender Dayot Upamecano reacts to Les Bleus’ resounding 4-0 win over The Netherlands on Friday night, a game in which he notably found the net for the hosts’ second of the game after just eight minutes.
The Bayern Munich man explains that he had a “good feeling” on the pitch, notably highlighting the “good communication” in his newly-formed partnership with Ibrahima Konaté.
Asked about his goal – a close-range finish after Antoine Griezmann had swung in a free-kick from wide – Upamecano points out that he was aiming to get on the scoresheet on the night: “My whole family was there, my brothers and sisters, my mother, my son, so today it was for them.”
Moving on to Monday evening’s match against Ireland, the second of Les Bleus’ Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, Upamecano highlights the short recovery time between their two games. In particular, he uses a phrase which may have been inspired by the France captain’s words after PSG’s first-leg defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League:
“We’re going to have to eat well, sleep well, because the matches are coming thick and fast, so we’re going to have to attack them.”
