Christian Eriksen’s long-awaited return to competitive football might happen this week when Brentford takes on relegation rivals Newcastle United.
Eriksen is yet to feature in a competitive game since collapsing in Euro 2020 while with Denmark and with the midfielder signing for Brentford in January, there has been a lot of talk around his comeback.
The former Spurs man has been keeping fit with the club’s junior side in arranged friendlies and according to the Evening Standard, there is optimism that Eriksen is now ready to be involved in the matchday squad when Newcastle visits west London this weekend.
The 30-year-old has so far featured in two friendlies behind closed doors for the Premier league newbies, the first against Southend United last week before yesterday’s trip to face a Rangers XI.
Eriksen claimed assists for both of the Bees’ goals in a 2-2 draw having played almost 80 minutes of Monday’s contest. Mathias Jorgensen headed in Erkisen’s first-half corner before Tristan Crama turned home a free-kick after the break after the Rangers had taken the lead.
There is some belief that the player is now ready for real football with Brentford keen on integrating the player slowly into the first team.
