Chelsea’s Timo Werner ready to take pay cut to join RB Leipzig

As reported by Sky Germany, Chelsea forward Timo Werner would be willing to take a pay cut to re-join RB Leipzig and the Bundesliga side are still deciding whether to loan the German forward, or to buy the player on a permanent basis.

Florian Plettenberg notes that a transfer is getting closer but is still a long way from completion. Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is still undecided what he wants to do with Werner, who played just 21 Premier League games last season, down from 35 during the 2020/21 season.

RB Leipzig would face competition from Newcastle United and Juventus to sign Werner, but the 26-year-old is open to moving back to Leipzig to improve his chances of making Hansi Flick’s World Cup squad.

Werner scored 11 and created six in 37 games across all competitions for Chelsea last season. The German would provide significant competition for André Silva and Christopher Nkunku at Leipzig.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano on Sunday, Chelsea made another attempt to sign Leipzig defender Joško Gvardiol, which includes Werner heading in the opposite direction, but the Bundesliga side insist that the Croatian defender isn’t leaving the club this summer.
