Chelsea U21 coach Robinson delighted with players’ progress after EFL Trophy win

Chelsea U21 coach Mark Robinson says his players are enjoying their EFL Trophy run.

Victory over Peterborough in midweek saw Chelsea reach the round of 16.

Four top-quality goals proved to be the difference between the two sides as Chelsea won 4-2.

A Malik Mothersille brace and two exceptional finishes from Cesare Casadei and Ben Elliott saw Chelsea defeat the League One side.

Robinson told the club’s website: “It was a very pleasing performance all round. Not only were there many standout individual performances, the players were excellent as a collective carrying out the off-the-ball aspects that are crucial in any game, let alone against a good quality League One side.

“Most of our work is always about us but we obviously watched them against Tottenham in the group stages and saw how dominant they were in that game. It was imperative the players not only matched them physically but that we were brave enough on the ball to recognise how to break their press with quick movement and excellent detail.’

“The quality of our goals was obviously very pleasing but there were also plenty of other opportunities to score on the back of fine team moves.”
