Romelu Lukaku is willing to take a massive pay cut to return to Inter Milan next summer, with Inter considering making an expensive loan move for the Belgian marksman.
In today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, it has been reported that Romelu Lukaku has kept constant contact with Simone Inzaghi and his former Inter teammates since leaving the club in the summer. And it is understood that the former Manchester United striker has let the Inter hierarchy know of his ambition to make a return to the club next summer.
Lukaku joined Chelsea for a club-record transfer fee of €115million last summer. But since returning to his boyhood club, the 28-year-old striker has not found the form he would enjoy at San Siro in the previous seasons. This season, the Belgian striker has scored only five goals from 20 Premier League appearances.
Furthermore, the talks of a potential return to Inter have already turned the Chelsea fans against the superstar striker. The backlash from fans, coupled with an underwhelming season in front of the goal, has reportedly made Lukaku lean towards a return to Inter.
The report from La Gazzetta dello Sport believes that Inter could consider an expensive loan move in the summer for the forward, who signed a contract until June 2026 while signing for Chelsea.
Lukaku has even hinted at accepting a massive cut in his salary to facilitate a move back to Inter, with the report suggesting that Lukaku is open to reducing his annual wage from €12.5million to €7.5million.
Chelsea host Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals tonight, while Inter are back in the race for Scudetto this season following their narrow yet extremely significant 1-0 victory over Juventus in the weekend.
