Chelsea FC defender Emerson Palmieri has admitted that he doesn’t want to return to the club.
The Italian has been on loan at French side Lyon, finding regular playing time after being on the fringes of the Chelsea first-team for the last couple of years.
It was expected that Lyon would exercise the €15m buy-option built into Emerson’s loan deal should they have qualified for European football but since they are in midtable and out of Europe after their 3-0 home defeat to West Ham United in the Europa League quarterfinals last week, that option looks bleak.
The player admitted that he wants to stay at Lyon for foreseeable future but his wage demands might be a brainer for the French club which is doing everything to cut their wage bill.
“I’ve felt good here this season because I’ve played a lot compared to last year, although I’m sad with the results so far. I would like to stay here after the end of the season, I have no problem saying that but it’s not up to me,” the left-back told L’Equipe.
Emerson has two years left on his Chelsea contract and is expected to return to Stamford Bridge in the summer, at least temporarily, despite already rejecting a chance to do so in January when his club needed help covering for the injured Ben Chilwell.
