Chelsea registered a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s two goals were gift-wrapped by poor Spurs defending with all the damage done in the first half as Kai Havertz’s opener was added to by a slapstick own goal from Ben Davies.
The Blues had a brilliant start to the game and punished Spurs just inside five minutes of play through Kai Havertz. Tanganga’s poor pass for Emerson Royal was intercepted by Marcos Alonso who spotted Havertz with the German putting the ball into the back of the net.
In the 34th minute, Chelsea doubled their lead and this time around it was an own goal from Ben Davies. Romelu Lukaku was fouled on the right-wing of the pitch with Hakim Ziyech stepping up to deliver.
Ziyech delivered a searching pass that was headed by Tanganga into the face of Davies and the ball flew beyond Lloris.
At the start of the second half, Spurs had tempo as they were pushing to pull one goal back. Ndombele was brought down at the edge of the box. Harry Kane stepped up and his hard shot was saved by Kepa and Chelsea cleared for safety.
The second leg will be played next week at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
