Chelsea FC captain Cesar Azpilicueta is edging closer to joining FC Barcelona on a free transfer.
The Spanish defender’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires this summer and it looks like he won’t be signing a new deal with the player keen on returning to his native Spain according to reports from Dario Sports.
The 32-year old who can play a number of positions in defense has been a key figure at Stamford Bridge and captained Chelsea to the Champions League in Porto last season when they beat Manchester City in the final.
César Azpilicueta is the first player in Chelsea’s history to have won the following trophies at the club:
✅ Premier League
✅ UEL
✅ UCL
✅ FA Cup
✅ EFL Cup
✅ Super Cup
✅ Club World Cup 🆕Dave completes the set. © pic.twitter.com/gLyzjdrFWY

He is not the only player Barca are keen on having on a free as his counterpart Andreas Christensen, whose contract with the London club is also on the verge of drawing to a close, is also a target for the Spanish giants.
Barca are said to be on the market for free agents to balance their books as they want to rope in Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund and are afraid that they might come less with finances on other targets.
