In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Manu’s Game of the Week: Werder Bremen vs Union Berlin
My match of the week is Werder against Union Berlin. I feel that all the noise surrounding Union could be almost a cleansing process for the club. David Fofana was suspended for a week after failing to shake hands with Urs Fischer when he was brought off against Napoli. Then there is the story surrounding Leonardo Bonucci. Fabrizio Romano claimed in a tweet on Tuesday that Bonucci was unhappy with his situation at the club. Bonucci has categorically denied that report. All of that overshadowed what was on balance a very good performance against Napoli that highlighted once again that Union are better than their results. With that in mind, a win for the capital club is only a question of time and Werder might be the perfect opponent to finally turn things around.
Manu’s Predictions:
- Bochum 1-2 Mainz
- Bayern Munich 3-0 Darmstadt
- Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 Heidenheim
- Werder Bremen 1-2 Union Berlin
- Augsburg 0-2 Wolfsburg
- Stuttgart 2-1 Hoffenheim
- RB Leipzig 3-1 Köln
- Eintracht Frankfurt 0-2 Borussia Dortmund
- Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Freiburg
Stefan’s Game of the Week: Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund have done well to maintain an unbeaten run in the Bundesliga this season, most notably with their slender 1-0 win over Werder Bremen where Edin Terzic’s side were able to carefully pick apart a chaotic opponent. However, in Eintracht Frankfurt they’ll face a foe that is far more composed and knows how to defend well. Which should prove to be an entirely new obstacle for Terzic’s defensive and pragmatic side to overcome.
Stefan’s Predictions:
- Bochum 1-1 Mainz
- Bayern Munich 3-1 Darmstadt
- Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-1 Heidenheim
- Werder Bremen 0-1 Union Berlin
- Augsburg 1-2 Wolfsburg
- Stuttgart 2-1 Hoffenheim
- RB Leipzig 2-0 Köln
- Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Borussia Dortmund
- Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 Freiburg
