In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Manu’s Game of the Week: Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Dortmund
Both are coming off an emotional Champions League night and will want to build on their recent run of form. Both teams also have some of the loudest and most colourful fan-bases in Germany and the atmosphere should be electric. In truth, this is a very hard game to call, and details will be decisive. I think Dortmund will just edge it, but should Frankfurt win it look out for a certain Mario Götze to get the winning goal.
Manu’s Predictions:
-
Werder Bremen 1-1 Hertha Berlin
-
Bayern Munich 3-0 Mainz
-
RB Leipzig 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen
-
Wolfsburg 2-1 Bochum
-
Stuttgart 1-1 Augsburg
-
Eintracht Frankfurt 1-2 Borussia Dortmund
-
Union Berlin 3-1 Borussia Mönchengladbach
-
Schalke 0-2 Freiburg
-
Köln 1-3 Hoffenheim
Stefan’s Game of the Week: RB Leipzig vs Bayer Leverkusen
On paper, this clash promises to be an entertaining game between two of the most impressive squads in the Bundesliga. However, in reality it is likely to be far more chaotic, as both clubs slowly but surely come to terms with their new head coaches. The home side are definitely further down the path in that regard and while Leverkusen still pack a punch, I’m not sure Xabi Alonso’s side can match their hosts at the Red Bull Arena.
Stefan’s Predictions:
-
Werder Bremen 1-2 Hertha Berlin
-
Bayern Munich 2-0 Mainz
-
RB Leipzig 3-2 Bayer Leverkusen
-
Stuttgart 0-1 Augsburg
-
Wolfsburg 2-1 Bochum
-
Eintracht Frankfurt 2-2 Borussia Dortmund
-
Union Berlin 2-1 Borussia Mönchengladbach
-
Schalke 0-2 Freiburg
-
Köln 1-2 Hoffenheim
Scores after MD11: Manu – 53, Stefan – 39.
