Borussia Mönchengladbach have no intention of selling Marcus Thuram this summer

Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach Daniel Farke has no intention of letting Marcus Thuram leave the club despite the French attacker having just 12 months remaining on his current deal.

“At the moment, I see Marcus totally tidy, focused and in good physical condition,” Farke told Kicker.

Appointed as a replacement for Adi Hütter, Farke is impressed with the Frenchman: “Marcus is a player I really appreciate, a player with exceptional quality that he’s already demonstrated in the past.

“Marcus has different qualities for different positions. From my point of view, it’s important that he’s shown preference to a central position. He’s not the typical winger who runs to the corner flag and crosses in. Marcus must be close to the goal. He has an incredible feeling for running routes and for behaviour in the box but he can also come from a lower position and use his teammates. The decisive factor is to put him in a position where he can develop his own qualities.”

Entering the final year of his contract, there’s speculation surrounding the 24-year-old’s future but for now, Gladbach are planning with him for the 2022/23 season.

“There’s no sign that Marcus is even thinking about other things,” added Farke. “And we have no intention of letting him go on our part either, because he is an exceptional player.”

The France international almost joined Inter Milan in August but a serious knee injury saw the transfer collapse. Thuram struggled last season, scoring three and creating one in 21 Bundesliga (972 minutes).

Should Thuram leave, Gladbach have the possibility of losing three forwards this summer after Monaco made an opening offer for Breel Embolo whilst Alassane Pléa has also been linked with a departure.
