Borussia Dortmund extend the contract of Gregor Kobel until 2028

Borussia Dortmund have extended the contract of goalkeeper Gregor Kobel until 2028, according to Sport Bild.

When Kobel puts pen to paper, he will become one of the top earners at the club.

Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl was pushing for an extension beyond his current contract, which would have run out in 2026.

Kobel is now set to earn around €10m a year, which is triple the amount of his previous salary,€3.5m.

The Swiss international wanted to stay despite interest and approaches from English Premier League clubs.

Offers included Chelsea, who approached Kobel with a €20m a year salary, however, he decided to turn the offer down and stay loyal to Dortmund.

Kobel has been a standout player for Dortmund since he joined the club in the summer of 2021 and was promoted to vice-captain before the start of this season. He has quickly become a fan’s favourite and has been rewarded for his impressive performances, including last night in the Champions League match against AC Milan, where he pulled off some impressive saves to earn Dortmund a point.

A long-term contract will mean top clubs around Europe will have to pay a large fee if they are looking to attract him away from Borussia Dortmund in the future.
