Boro 0-2 Chelsea: Lukaku & Ziyech fire the Blues into the FA Cup semi-finals

Chelsea advanced to the FA Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 victory against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Boro defeated Manchester United and Tottenham to reach the quarter-finals, but Thomas Tuchel’s Premier League side had no such problems at the Riverside Stadium.

Romelu Lukaku opened the goal after only 15 minutes, and Hakim Ziyech added a second in the first half, while Boro responded with just one attempt on target, which came in the 85th minute.

The goals:

Mason Mount’s early cross narrowly evaded Christian Pulisic’s desperation dive at the back post, but Chelsea took the lead shortly afterward.

A sweeping play out of defense created space down the right for Mount, who flicked across for a tap-in from Lukaku.

16 minutes later, Ziyech extended the advantage when he finished into the bottom-left corner from beyond the area following an offload from Mount.

Mount’s second assist of the game pushed him to 50 goals in all competitions for Chelsea, while Anfernee Dijksteel blocked a Lukaku header off the line before the interval.

What next?

Chelsea will now await the outcome of Sunday’s last-four draw, with the semi-finals scheduled for April 16 and 17 at Wembley Stadium.
