Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry sidelined for a “few weeks” with broken arm

Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry will undergo an operation today and will be sidelined for the foreseeable future after suffering a broken forearm in the opening minutes of their 4-0 in the DFB Pokal against Preußen Münster on Tuesday night.

Speaking after the game, Thomas Tuchel said: “My latest statement is that he will have an operation tomorrow. He will be missing for a few weeks. That is very bitter for him personally, but also for us.”

In the fourth minute Gnabry collided with Johannes Schenk, on loan from Bayern, and tried to continue but was replaced in the 11th minute. He returned to the bench with his arm in a splint and he had an X-ray at the time, confirming the break.

That also means that Gnabry will miss out on Julian Nagelsmann’s first Germany squad when the national team travel to the USA between October 9 and 18. Germany will play games against the USA and Mexico.

Heading into last night’s game, Bayern Munich also had problems defensively with injuries to Kim Min-jae, Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano, meaning Leon Goretzka and Noussair Mazraoui both started in central-defence.

Bayern Munich face RB Leipzig on Saturday before a Champions League game against Copenhagen and a home match against Freiburg prior to the international break.
