Barcelona coach Xavi was delighted after their 4-0 win against Real Valladolid.
Scoring a brace in Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Real Valladolid was the latest piece of evidence that shows the Catalan club were right to pursue him, despite his age.
Xavi wanted a leading number nine to star in his 2022/23 Barcelona team and he believes the Polish international is the perfect choice after having watched him play in a number of matches.
“Having Lewandowski in the team is a blessing,” Xavi declared in his post-match press conference, after the Real Valladolid win.
“He’s an example, he has humility, he works for the team and he helps the coaching staff.
“He makes a difference, he is an extraordinary player.”
Much was made over the money spent to also sign Raphinha from Leeds United, but he too is settling into Xavi’s team well. The coach was impressed by how he dovetailed with Ousmane Dembele.
“I thought Raphinha had more ability on the inside than Dembele, and they both make a difference,” he added.
“They have to pick the last pass better, but they give us a lot of things. I’m very happy.”
Jules Kounde finally made his Barcelona debut after the club were unable to register him in LaLiga until Saturday. Despite being played out of position at right-back, Xavi was pleased with his contribution.
“He has been feeling good, he is able to play all across the defensive line,” the coach continued.
“He can also play on the left. He can define an era. He has a lot of spirit.
“We have made a great signing, I thought he was a better choice today than Ronald Araujo because of Real Valladolid’s play. It depends on the game and the opponent.”
