Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone insists there’s no sense of intimidation facing Manchester City.
Atletico meet City on Tuesday night for the first-leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.
“We all have pressure, but I think it is a matter of responsibility. I have no doubt that City have extraordinary players, maybe they have better players than us, but it’s just two games,” Simeone said during Monday’s pre-match press conference.
“City and Bayern [Munich] might have a better chance [of going all the way], but last season Chelsea were the winners.”
Difference between Manchester United and City
Atleti knocked out Manchester United in the last round of the Champions League, but Simeone recognises that City are a different beast altogether.
“United had different characteristics to City. City are more positional and dominate everywhere,” the Argentine stated.
“We need to build on and improve everything we did a fortnight ago.”
When asked about the style of play Pep Guardiola looks to implement in his teams, there is one quality that stands out to Simeone.
“What I like about teams like City is the effort they put in to win the ball back; it’s great to see them play,” he commented.
“What is important for me is to see players of that quality always being active and not losing the ball. That’s what all coaches want.”
