Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is delighted with their swoop for Morgan Rogers.
Rogers joined on deadline day from Middlesbrough.
“Morgan is a young player, a talented player, who is from here,” Emery said. “We were following him, and he played against us with Middlesbrough.
“We analysed him and I think for a lot of things – he’s young, his potential is big, he’s from Birmingham. He is ready to play. He was playing a lot of matches for Middlesbrough and producing consistently good performances.
“Now he has to adapt quickly to our ideas, our style and our rules. But he is intelligent and he is a good player so I think he is going to be quick to adapt.
“Of course he is in the squad for tomorrow and he could play. He won’t be in the starting eleven but he could get minutes and try to get confidence and a good feeling with the team. Hopefully he can understand quickly everything we want from him tactically and at set pieces.”
On where Rogers will fit in his system, Emery replied: “He is a number eight or a ten. We usually play with two players usually trying to drop and play inside and trying to connect with the nine and progress beyond that.
“That’s one of his qualities but he has also played as a striker and he can run in behind his opponent. He has qualities to do it. But for now we need time to understand him, we need time to let him adapt quickly and understand everything.”
