Arsenal ‘refuse’ to cancel Hector Bellerin contract

Following Real Betis’ desire to sign Hector Bellerin on a free transfer this summer, Arsenal are said to have declined to renounce the defender’s contract a year early.

After being deemed surplus to needs at the Emirates Stadium by manager Mikel Arteta, the Spaniard spent the 2021-22 season on loan at his childhood club Betis in La Liga.

During the 2021-22 season, Bellerin made 32 appearances for Manuel Pellegrini’s team, helping the Seville-based club win the Copa del Rey championship in April.

Both the club and the player had intended to make the transaction permanent this summer, but Betis are refusing to pay a transfer fee for Bellerin, who is still under contract with Arsenal for another year.

The Spanish club requested that Arsenal cancel the defender’s contract one year early in order to finalize the permanent deal, but according to Estadio Deportivo, Arsenal is now unwilling to budge on such a request.

According to the source, Arsenal is still ready to demand a transfer price for the 27-year-old, who is also garnering attention from Roma, Fiorentina, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Barcelona.

Bellerin, on the other hand, is said to be keen on staying at Betis and is even prepared to cut his present pay of roughly £100,000-a-week in half in order to secure a permanent move.
