Former Newcastle United player Darren Ambrose has backed them as potential title contenders this season.
The Magpies are within touching distance of Arsenal who are in top spot, as they sit in third place in the Premier League after 14 matches.
With the league season not resuming until December 26th due to the World Cup, Ambrose admits that Magpies players and fans will be casting their minds to a title challenge when they return to action.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he stated: “They just love having their football club back.
“They are proud to support their football club. You see St. James’ Park, the atmosphere is outstanding because they’ve got their club back.
“They’ve had bad times over the last 10-15 years and now they can support something. But I have to call it as I see it, and they won’t like me saying this because they like going under the radar, I feel they can be in for a title challenge.”
