AC Milan midfielder Sandro was pleased with Italy’s 0-0 draw at Nations League opponents England.
Tonali was frustrated, however, with not making the most of a goalscoring chance he had during the stalemate.
“It was a tough game, we knew it wouldn’t be easy, but we played as if we’d been working together for years,” Tonali told RAI Sport.
“We created lots of chances and could’ve scored a goal, but after going close so many times, nobody can say it was a bad performance.”
Referring to his chance, he continued: “I hit it too cleanly! In these cases, it’s better if you scuff it a little. I saw he was rushing towards me, so I had to had get the finish away and tried to place it.
“Most of the players today had never actually played together before, so when it comes to passing out from the back, you need to understand and know each other. That can only come from playing regularly as a team.
“It is also important that we find more players who can complement each other, especially in midfield, as when one pushes forward, the other has to cover the space. We did well defensively today and that was not to be taken for granted.”
