Ligue 1 sets attendance record

Ligue 1 has set a new attendance record, with an average of 31,650 spectators per match in the 23rd matchday, reports LFP.fr.

This translates to an occupancy rate of 90.4%, a league record, with seven teams (Olympique de Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain, FC Lorient, FC Metz, Havre AC, RC Lens and RC Strasbourg) saw their stadiums filled to more than 90% of capacity.

These impressive figures underline an ongoing trend of increased attendances in the league, growing from an average of 21,885 in 2021/2022, 23,596 in 2022/2023 to 26,942 this season. Furthermore, the occupancy rate of stadiums has also grown in line with these figures, with stadiums averaging being full to 84.1% of capacity so far this season, a dramatic increase on 80.3% (2022/2023) and 70.7% (2021/2022) when measured until the same matchday.

These figures are unprecedented in the league’s history and we can expect the trend to continue as it reaches its crescendo with European spots and avoiding relegation still to play for.
