Danilho Doekhi and Diogo Leite could leave Union Berlin in the summer

Bild reports that both Danilho Doekhi and Diogo Leite could leave Union Berlin this summer whilst the club will offer extensions to other defenders.

Doekhi’s contract at Union expires in 2025 and the Dutch defender could be interested in taking the next step in his career. Due to his contract expiring next summer, a sale this summer would likely be Union’s last chance to receive a transfer fee.

In his first season in Berlin, Doekhi was one of Union’s key players as he helped them qualify for the Champions League after originally joining from Vitesse Arnhem on a free transfer.

While for the 25 year old’s defensive partner Leite, whose contract expires in 2026, a departure is not out of the question but a fee in the double digit millions would be required to allow Leite to leave. The Portuguese defender joined in 2022 originally on loan before his move was made permanent last summer.

Whilst the future of some of Union’s assets are up in the air, the club is also considering giving some of their other defenders a contract extension. Stalwart Robin Knoche’s contract at the club expires in the summer and talks over a potential extension are underway, but it cannot be ruled out that Knoche leaves on a free in the summer.

Talks are also expected to take place with Paul Jaeckel over a contract extension.
