Sheffield Utd boss Wilder happy with West Ham draw

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder was pleased with their 2-2 draw against West Ham.

Oli McBurnie, from the spot, scored the latest ever goal in the Premier League, converting a 103rd-minute penalty to earn a point for the Blades. Rhian Brewster for United and West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal saw red in injury-time.

Wilder said, “I’ve been a Sheffield United supporter for 35, 40 years and it’s never been any different. Whether it’s a game or a season it’s interesting. It’s interesting because we stay with it and we give it a go.

“It isn’t just about the effort and the application, I thought we played well and controlled the game against some good players.

“I thought that was a decent enough effort in the first half. We stayed in until the end, things happened at the end which happen in football matches. Because the attitude was there, that allowed things to happen.

“I think we deserved a result today. Not just from our attitude but from our play as well.

“It’s a good performance and we’re rewarded by a result.

“I want us to play in the right areas and be good as well in terms of our control and match decisions. Late on we just needed to be a bit more direct.

“Our attitude stayed with us and we’ll keep building and moving forward. It was a step in the right direction today.”
