As reported by Bild, Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Nadiem Amiri is open to move this winter with two Ligue 1 teams particularly interested.
Both Lyon and Marseille are said to be keen on bringing in the former German international to their ranks this January. Amiri was on the verge of joining Marseille last year with a €6m transfer fee having been agreed upon. However, having failed to qualify for the Champions League, the French side lacked the appropriate funding.
Marseille will make their second attempt this winter with Amiri still eager to move away from B04. The midfielder has been mostly as a substitute under Xabi Alonso during the first half of the season.
However, Marseille will face competewtion from Lyon, who themselves are in need of strengthening their squad. Lyon have had a disastrous first half of the campaign and sit just outside the relegation places.
However, will Leverkusen allow any outgoing transfers to happen at all?
Sports director Simon Rolfes informed Bild: “We don’t give away any players in winter.”
The reason for this is the upcoming African Cup of Nations which is due to start in January. B04 are likely to lose up to five players from their squad and therefore need all the backup they can get whilst the tournament is ongoing.
For this reason, Amiri might still have a role to play for the current league leaders.
