Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali is likely to play the last game of the season for the club later today.
The Magpies take on Crystal Palace today and Newcastle boss Eddie Howe stated yesterday that Tonali, despite his ongoing investigation around the betting scandal, will be able to feature against the London side. The midfielder has already confessed to betting illegally, as he even bet on Milan matches during his time at the club.
Fabiana della Valle has reported that Tonali is likely to play his last game of the season today, as his lawyers will be present for a meeting with the Prosecutors in Turin early next week for a plea bargain. The expectation is that Tonali will get a ban of over one year.
Unlike Nicolo Fagioli, Tonali will not receive a salary from Newcastle United. Plus, there is also a chance that he may not be allowed to train with the Newcastle first team. A lot of it will depend on the plea bargain but Ivan Toney’s situation suggests that Tonali may not train with the side, just like how it transpired in Toney’s case.
The likelihood is that Tonali will be handed a hefty financial ban largely because he is currently based in England and he would be constantly travelling to Italy because of the case.
