Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has admitted that he did bet on Milan games and has confessed his actions to the Prosecutor.
Fabiana della Valle has reported that during Tonali’s meeting with Prosecutor Giuseppe Chine yesterday, the midfielder spoke about his actions and the Italian has already started contributing to the investigation. The interrogation lasted about three hours but before that, Chine had met Tonali at a secret location and they spoke about whatever Tonali did.
Tonali admitted to having bet on football but more importantly, he confessed to having bet on Milan games during his time at the Rossoneri. That could qualify as sporting misconduct but to make matters easier for Tonali, it may not be too bad since his betting and actions did impact the result of the game.
Tonali wants to follow the same path as Nicolo Fagioli and would like to seek a plea agreement. The initial sanction from the Prosecutor would be more than three years, largely because the midfielder bet on Milan games. But because Tonali has chosen to co-operate during the investigation, a plea agreement could be sought and the suspension could come down to 12 months, especially since Tonali has admitted to be suffering from gambling addiction.
