Speaking via RB Leipzig’s official website, Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho gave his first words after the Bundesliga side announced his signing on a season-long loan.
“As a young player, it’s a big step for me to move from England to the Bundesliga and RB Leipzig. I’m joining a strong side, one that has been very successful in recent years. Now, I want to help build on this and am looking forward to taking on a new challenge,” said Carvalho.
“My goal is to play as much as possible, in the league, the cup and especially in the UEFA Champions League. RB Leipzig have a reputation for giving young players these kinds of opportunities, which is why this is the perfect club for me to continue my development at.”
Carvalho joins RB Leipzig on loan for the 2023/24 season but the Saxony club have had to make a compromise in the fact that the loan doesn’t include a purchase option – it’s something the club have been adamant on since losing Joshua Kimmich to Bayern Munich following a successful loan spell from Stuttgart.
Club bosses see Carvalho as an eventual replacement to Dominik Szoboszlai or Dani Olmo. Leipzig hope that the Portuguese attacker will feel comfortable at the club, which could work in their favour in any future negotiations following the end of his loan spell.
Since his €5.9m from to Liverpool from Fulham last summer, Carvalho played 638 minutes across 21 games, scoring three goals. It was his performances for Fulham in the 21/22 campaign that saw Liverpool purchase Carvalho after 18 goal contributions (10 goals, 8 assists) in 36 Championship games for Fulham.
