Former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has dubbed Luton Town’s promotion a “fairytale”.
The Hatters will compete in the Premier League for the first time in their history.
Dawson told Tottenham’s website: “This is the fairytale story… just look at where Luton were a few years ago. What Rob Edwards has done is unbelievable. He left Forest Green for Watford, they sacked him after 12 games, but he took his time, was linked with a few jobs, went into Luton and did an incredible job. Luton in the Premier League, good luck to them. They missed out to Huddersfield in the play-offs last season, but they’ve kept going and now they’ve made it back into the best league in the world.
“I’m sure people will write them off before a ball is even kicked, but what they have is a special spirit, and that can take you a long way. Luton have enjoyed a few promotions in recent years, but I doubt if their fans have had a day like the play-off final at Wembley.
“Now they will be going to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Old Trafford, Anfield, St James’ Park, Emirates and the Etihad. They will be underdogs in every game, but they won’t care, and they’ll embrace it and enjoy it. People talk about the style of football, but we’ve seen it in teams like Burnley. Look, every team wants to play like Pep Guardiola, but you win in the way you believe you can win with the players you have. They have that togetherness, and they will fight every minute.”
